.: STFL Installation
Install a Steel Tube Flying Lead (Cobra
Head) into the manifold connection on a Subsea Tree Structure.
|
|

|
.: Introduction
In this scenario, one end of the STFL must be attached to
the manifold connection on a Subsea Tree structure. The other end is already installed and connected
to an Umbilical Termination Assembly (UTA).
The STFL to install is suspended by a cable that is connected to the
Ship. There is a hook that connects
the Cobra Head to the Ship’s Cable.
.: Controlling the FLOT
The Flying Lead Orientation Tool (FLOT)
is designed to operate in conjunction with a torque tool for the connection
of subsea flying assemblies. In this
scenario we will orient the FLOT appropriately, in order to connect to the
Cobra Head.

.: Procedure
1.
Lay the steel tube along the desired path on the sea floor. This requires the following :
a. Using the Control Tab on the Instructor,
move the ship at a Travel Direction of 45° (make sure to hit the ‘Enter’
Key)
b. Do not change the Ship Heading (leave at
the default of 0) and hit the ‘Go’ button.
c. Select the ‘VMAX-STFL’ Cable and begin
spooling the cable out.
d. Gently bring the Cobra Head down to the
sea floor.
e. Stop the ship once the cobra head has
reached the floor.
2. Unlatch the STFL from the Ship’s
cable. (See Reference
Picture 1)
3. Once unlatched, you may retrieve
the Ship’s Cable to move it out of the way of the operation.
4. Pilot the ROV towards the Cobra
Head.
5. Adjust the FLOT as necessary so
that you can connect the torque tool into the torque bucket on the back
side of the Cobra Head.
6. Once connected, Latch onto the
Cobra Head with the Torque Tool.
7. Slowly pilot the ROV towards the
Subsea Structure.
8. Look for the “MANF”
receptacle. That is where you will
attach the Cobra Head. (See Reference Picture 2)
9. Attach the Cobra Head into the
“MANF” receptacle and apply torque to keep it latched.
10. Once the Cobra Head is secured, unlatch the torque tool.
11. Pilot the ROV towards the float on the Cobra Head.
12. Detach the float by unscrewing the float connection. (See Reference Picture 1)
